Abstract

Health of children is one of the crucial health issues in developing countries, particularly in Indonesia. Stunting occurs due to chronic malnutrition and repeated infections in children, significantly impacting their physical and cognitive development. Although the prevalence of stunting has decreased over the years, it remains above the threshold set by the WHO. Various intervention programs have been implemented, such as specific and sensitive nutritional interventions, aimed at reducing the prevalence of stunting. This study aims to examine the implementation of stunting programs in Indonesia. It is a narrative review using a meta-synthesis approach to evaluate the implementation of stunting prevention programs in Indonesia. Relevant articles were selected based on inclusion criteria from multiple databases. The analysis shows that these programs can be categorized as specific and sensitive nutritional interventions. Specific nutritional interventions include iron supplementation, breastfeeding advocacy, provision of complementary foods, and basic immunization. On the other hand, sensitive nutritional interventions involve improving access to healthcare services, health education, and enhancing access to nutritious foods. However, the implementation of stunting prevention programs faces several challenges, including inadequate trained human resources, limited facilities and infrastructure, and suboptimal budget allocation. Additionally, low community participation, low education levels, and specific geographical conditions are obstacles to the effectiveness of these programs.
