Some mothers do not understand how to care for newborns, because of their low knowledge and experience. This causes mothers to be afraid, anxious, and confused about their feelings and beliefs in caring for their babies, especially in first child because they don’t know how to care for babies properly. This is what makes the first child often referred to as the experimental child. The purpose of this research is to find out the Mare community tradition in caring for newborns and to find out the description of Mare people’s knowledge in the care of newborns, and it is known the Mare people’s behavior in the care of newborns. This type of research is analytical which uses a cross sectional approach. The cross sectional approach is a study to study the dynamics of correlation between risk factors and effects, by approaching, observing or collecting data at once. So that the number of samples that meet the criteria is determined as many as 30 people. The result showed that 1) there was an influence of the Mare community tradition on the care of newborns in Mare District. The results of the chi square test showed that p-value = 0.000 p < 0.05. 2) There is an effect of the knowledge of the Mare community in the care of newborns in Mare District. The result of the chi square test showed that p-value = 0.006 p < 0.05. 3) There is an influence of Mare community behaviour in the care of newborns. The results of the chi square test showed that p-value = 0.010 p < 0.05. The conclusion is that there is an influence of tradition, knowledge and behavior of the Mare people in the care of newborn babies in Mare District
